The severe storm that occurred in Edmonton on July 10, 2026, followed by several significant rainfall events, caused considerable flooding in the mechanical room at Barnett House and resulted in extensive flood damage to the building.
Over the course of five days, nearly 950,000 litres of water were pumped from the affected areas on the lower levels, enough water to fill approximately half of an Olympic-sized swimming pool.
As a result of the flooding and the ongoing remediation work, the building will remain closed until further notice.
The safety of everyone who uses the building is the top priority. Crews and contractors are working to address the damage, assess the building’s systems, and determine the next steps toward reopening.
While the building is closed, the Local will continue to operate and staff will be working remotely. We remain available to support members and will continue to respond to emails and phone calls during this time.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate this situation and work toward returning to the building safely. Further updates will be provided as information becomes available.
