“I want to strengthen this local and the provincial association. One must start that with stronger locals!
There is more that can and should be done at the local leadership level.
I am inspired by your classrooms. I know that you are diligent, organized, and sensitive to the flow of activities that you design and carry out every day. As a fellow classroom teacher, I know that if my objectives and procedures aren’t clear, it’s on me to reflect on and fix. I feel the same way about the local – it needs to be ready for you. If not, energy can sag, and I think members are tired of feeling like they’re on the back foot!
My classroom teacher ethos tells me this: You are voting to release one member half-time to lead the membership.
The job of president would mean I am in the local office every afternoon. (And, I am finally done grad school!) Finishing a
doctorate degree in adult education has given me more insight into how we learn from one another, and I believe that the primary job of a local president is help engage and inform fellow members, especially as we head into central table bargaining.
With six years as local vice-president with Sandy Gillis & Greg Carabine, I believe that my combination of skill & experience make me well suited to lead a team that includes two VPs new to their role (congrats to Nicole and Owen!) I encourage you to see the endorsements of members and past presidents that have generously lent their confidence to my candidacy.
I hope I can count on your support! ✊”
