October GSA Meeting – Special Guest

We are very excited to have special guest, Michael Phair at our next GSA meeting on Monday Oct. 17th in our Local 54 office! October is 2SLGBTQ+ history month and he will be joining us from 4:30-6:00pm for a table talk about Queer Education in History, along with chatting about the Edmonton Queer History Tour.

Michael Phair was appointed by the province, as Chair of the Board of Governors of the University of Alberta for nearly 4 years.  In 2022, he was awarded a Honourary Degree by the University. Previously he was Executive Director with the North Saskatchewan River Valley Conservation Society and now is vice Chair of the Board, as well he was Educational Coordinator with UA’s Institute for Sexual Minority Studies and Services and an elected member of Edmonton City Council 1992-2007.  

Michael Phair has been active for over 25 years with Edmonton’s Gay/Lesbian (Queer) community, founder of AIDS Edmonton, and currently coordinator of Edmonton Pride Senior Group that aspires to develop a residence in Edmonton for Older GLBTQ2S+ persons. He has also been part of the Queer History Project’s Queer Downtown Map.  He was a board member of NeWest Press, Pro Coro Music Society, and Edmonton Homeward Trust.
