Trustee Candidate Pledge

The Edmonton Catholic Teachers Local 54 of the ATA presents the following pledge to candidates, both seeking election and acclaimed) in the upcoming 2021 school board election:

I pledge that if elected/acclaimed as an Edmonton Catholic School Board Trustee, I will:

  1. Publically oppose any piloting of the new K-6 draft curriculum and any future curriculum that does not include and reflect the robust work that has already taken place (with teacher input) on curriculum development by previous governments in Alberta.
  2. Encourage that the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Call to Action be woven into school cultures and classrooms.
  3. Support anti-bias education (on race, culture, gender and sexual identity and orientation, etc.) for ALL who are part of the Edmonton Catholic community.
  4. Petition the government to fully fund specialized learning supports for students with disabilities and students with diverse needs.
  5. Advocate for increased funding for public education to ensure that it is adequate, predictable, and sustainable for all school divisions.
  6. Insist that the government use public tax dollars for Catholic, Francophone and Public Schools ONLY.
