Anyone else feeling like it is “Junetober”? I sure am and, when I try to think of why I feel this way, all that I can think of is TIRED, still completely lit up by my teacher world, being with “my kids” and teacher family and in the throws of school. Truly, my roots as a teacher always bring me back to that sense of being a part of something special. Something huge. Something that no one can quite understand unless they, too, have been a part of it. For this, I am so grateful, always.
This all said, the start up this year had me feeling a little bit like being on a Ferris wheel in the chair that is stuck at the very top, on a windy day with no repair in site. Jostled around. Just stuck. All of this because of the failure of hopeful anticipation of a memorable and fulfilling experience to replace the drudgery of before. Mostly, something grand that could be celebrated. It’s ok to feel this way, to feel robbed in some way. This doesn’t lessen the work that we all are asked to do. What we do is important.
A few reminders from us here at the Local; most importantly in the way of knowing what is happening in the world of bargaining. Please be sure to go to the ATA’s website and sign up for an online account. At the risk of sounding like the student who has the same story to tell in every subject and every sharing time, this information and ask is important. We are in a time of bargaining and being “in the know” is very important.
Finally, we would love for you to have us in your schools! Stay tuned for more information about a new school video and how we can be a part of your staff meeting!
As always, take care of yourselves and have a blessed and restful Thanksgiving.
Best,
Sandra
