The Edmonton Catholic Teachers Local 54, ATA invites applications for the position of Local Executive Officer.
Under the direction of the Local President and elected Executive members and under the umbrella of the Alberta Teachers’ Association, the Executive Officer will serve approximately 2500 teachers employed by Edmonton Separate School Division No.7 in the City of Edmonton. The Executive Officer is responsible for directing the affairs, business and programs of the Local.
Duties include: advising teachers regarding professional concerns, advocating for teachers, interpreting the collective agreement (including health benefits and pension), overseeing all Local programs, advising Local committees, managing office staff, managing Local finances. The successful candidate will be required to attend all meetings of the Table Officers, Executive, Council, Teacher Welfare and other committees as requested.
Essential requirements for this position include:
- a firm commitment to further the objects of the Alberta Teachers’ Association and to promote and serve the professional interests of teachers
- a commitment to publicly-funded Catholic education
- a valid Alberta teaching certificate (or eligibility of same)
- exceptional skills in leadership; strong interpersonal and professional communication skills
- compassion, confidentiality and strength in leading others
- conflict resolution and human relations skills
- ability to negotiate in a variety of situations
- ability to work under pressure and to be flexible
- successful teaching experience with a Catholic School Division
Active participation in a Local and/or the ATA will be considered an asset.
Total compensation includes a salary and benefit package as per Local 54 Teachers’ Collective Agreement and participation in the Alberta Teachers’ Pension Plan. Duties to commence in November 2021.
